The British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA) has released the recording of its recent webinar, Trust as the Foundation of Property Ownership, which examines the Cowichan Tribes v. Canada court decision and its potential effects on property ownership and the Torrens system in British Columbia.

Held on November 17, 2025, the one-hour webinar provided REALTORS®, managing brokers, and industry stakeholders with a legal overview of the decision, historical context, and BCREA’s role in shaping the conversation.

Hosted by BCREA Chief Executive Officer Trevor Koot, the session featured George Abbott, BC Treaty Commissioner, and Sharon G.K. Singh, lawyer and policy advisor with McMillan LLP. The speakers explored how the ruling has sparked discussion across the real estate sector and emphasized the importance of maintaining trust and confidence in BC’s land title system.
