Creating homes faster province-wide with new digital permitting

The province is working on designing and implementing a new digital building permit tool to speed the delivery of new homes.
“Many municipalities rely on a paper-based application process for new housing developments which cause delays and slow approval times,” said housing minister Ravi Kahlon.
The new digital permitting tool will let builders and developers digitally submit building permits for new housing and let local governments receive and process applications.
The tool is being developed through a pilot partnership between the province, 16 local governments and one First Nation. At the same time, the province is also working on digitizing the BC Building Code.
The province has created a digital advisory council with representatives from 12 organizations including construction, engineers, architects, local governments and the tech sector.
