Obituary: Morley Lercher

REALTOR® Morley Lercher passed away in June. He was 77.
Born and raised in Vancouver’s Arbutus neighborhood, Morley attended Trafalgar Elementary, Prince of Wales High School, and earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia (UBC). He was a rugby player on a championship team during his time at UBC.
After university, Morley took over his family’s paint store on Broadway for a time before deciding on an entirely new career path: owning and operating a fabric and interior decoration specialty store. He learned everything he needed to and successfully ran his store for several years.
In the 1990s, Morley again decided to change his career and became a Realtor. He was first licensed with RE/MAX Select Properties in 1995. After nearly 20 years there, he moved to Sutton Westcoast and eventually to Heller Murch Realty, where he’d been since 2021. He spent six years volunteering with GVR as a director of the Westside Division from 2009-15.
As a lifelong Vancouverite, he knew his home well and could tell expert stories about neighbourhoods, people, and all the comings and goings. He also held a weekly poker game with his buddies and was a competitive bridge player.
But perhaps Morley’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, a dedicated dad, and a proud Zaidie to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Lynn, daughter Elysa (Elliott), son Jonathan (Talia), grandchildren Sophia, Alexis, and Leo, and countless friends, colleagues, clients, associates, and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation in Morley’s memory. Morley was an active volunteer there after suffering his first heart attack nearly 30 years ago.
