Honouring Richard Le: GVR supports victim’s son after Vancouver festival attack

People across Canada and the world were shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic and senseless attack that occurred at the Lapu Lapu Day festival in Vancouver on Saturday, April 26.
At the Greater Vancouver REALTORS® (GVR), our sadness and feelings of grief multiplied as details of the victims began to emerge. Among the people who lost their lives in the attack was Realtor Richard Le, a GVR member who worked out of Royal Pacific Realty in Vancouver.
Richard, his wife Linh Hoang, and their five-year-old daughter Katie Le were killed in the attack. Richard’s son, Andy Le, is the sole survivor in the family. According to reported accounts, he lived only because, at the last moment, he decided to stay home to finish his homework rather than attend the event with his family.
GVR donated $10,000 to the GoFundMe account set up to support Richard's surviving son, Andy. Andy and his family deactivated the account after raising over $540,000, and Andy has since donated approximately half of that total to support other victims of the incident.
“We encourage all members and people within the community to do what they can to support the victims of this heartbreaking attack on innocent people in Vancouver,” Jeff King, GVR CEO said.
For anyone who is affected or wants to help, you can find support resources and opportunities to help through the City of Vancouver’s website and the Filipino Emergency Response site set up by community organizers.
